Gas Types
Halon 1301: [BANNED] Older now banned in many regions due to ozone impact.
FE-241: [BANNED] Suitable for smaller compartments. Effective, but being phased out due to environmental concerns.
HVC-227ea (FM-200 equivalent): A clean agent with low toxicity and no residue; commonly used in newer systems. Stored as a gas. Is not banned, but is being manufactured less and less in the upcoming decades.
NVC: Stored as a liquid. Canisters need 30 inches of clearance and shouod be mounted higher than the engine. Sometimes the Coast Guard or insurance companies will require NVC. If the boat is outside of US juristiction most of the year, NVC might be necessary.
Clearance
All models must be within 24" from the ceiling.
NVC models need 30" horizontal clearance.
